Hanging onto a Disappointing World

She hung herself 
From the old oak tree
Thread by painful thread
She connected herself to this world 


Confusion, anger, and biting words
Split the skin 
Tethering the broken girl
To a wooden anchor of this world

 
Looking to take the leap of life 
She tangled herself further in lies
Now she hangs for life and limb 
Looking down at the rift below

 
Her head is lulling, side to side
She mutters her cusses 
Her red hair slumping forward 
As black sludge oozes from her stings

 
The cold wind is biting 
Nipping at her bruised skin 
She looks to the heavens 
Pleading for a sign, but hearing none

 
She can't cut herself down 
She needs a helping hand
One to let her fall, or one to pull her back 
But, as she looks the ledge she sees nothing

 
The creeping fog is nipping at her toes
The blue veins now are prominent
As her tears feed the ocean 
She looks around one last time 

 
Each wire snaps with backlash 
From the perfect marionette
Until she is only hanging by a thread
The one of confusion

 
It reverberates with screams 
For a reason to stay 
For a decision to be made 
And, for a hand to pull her up

 
But, for a girl that doesn't believe in fairy tales 
There is no happy ending
And, with a final snap
 That little puppet girl is plunging

 
New cracks are forming 
With the waves crashing 
She claws at the rocks with broken nails
For she is shattering
